On Thursday, February 8, 2007, Dr. Roy Jensen, Director of the KU Cancer Center, testified in favor of SB 198. This legislation, sponsored by Sen. Barbara Allen (R-Overland Park), would create a breast cancer research and outreach license plate, the proceeds from which would go to breast cancer research, prevention, treatment, and outreach at the KU Cancer Center. On Wednesday, February 7, 2007, Chancellor Robert Hemenway provided testimony in opposition to a House resolution regarding the proposed multiple hospital affiliations being pursued by KU Medical Center. On Tuesday, February 6, 2007, Dr. Dave Cook, Assistant Vice Chancellor for External Affairs, testified in favor of HB 2065. This legislation, sponsored by Rep. Tom Sloan (R-Lawrence), would require Kansas insurance companies to reimburse for telemedicine services in the same manner they would reimburse for face-to-face medical services. This legislation would codify definitions of terminology relevant to stem cell research. On Monday, January 22, 2007, Dr. Michael Kennedy, Assistant Dean of Rural Health, provided testimony to the Senate Ways and Means Committee in favor of SB 24.
